In the attached spreadsheet which is part of a pivot table that could grow or shrink in size I would like to add column D but exclude any amounts that correspond to "Paid Parental Leave" and "Phone Allowance" in column A. Thanks in advance.

I could easily filter these items out but I need the full total there in column D. I also need a formula with the exclusions to use elsewhere.
Your attachment doesn't contain a pivot table?
It's also not very clear what you're actually trying to achieve.
Suggest you attach a workbook which contains representative source data, a pivot table to show the layout you're working with, and a mocked up (accurate) representation of your required output.
