    Calculated Field Question

    Hi Guys,

I have a sample data set that shows costs incurred by type of vehicle. I've created a pivot and within that, a calculated field. The field takes the cost/count of vehicle type and it's returning a Div/0. The end goal is to see the cost per individual vehicle within that type.

I created a sample and uploaded, although here's an example.

My class A vehicles incurred $50K in breakdowns. There were a total of 4 vehicles which amounts to an average of $12,500 for class A vehicles.

Does anyone have an idea on this?

    Re: Calculated Field Question

    Caracalla,

Thanks for replying - I took a look at it and it looks like you changed the value field settings to average. I never thought of that -thank you.

Just for my own knowledge, is there any way to do this via the calculated fields to get it to focus on the numbers as opposed to it counting the letters?

    Sorry for off-topic interjection:

Although there is no official rule regarding this behavior, we request that wherever possible both the question AND the answer be provided in substantive detail here within the thread. An attached workbook is an excellent aid for posing a question and offering a solution, but solely doing that with no in thread explanation makes it difficult for researchers to understand or consider the Q & A of this thread without downloading what may be a pointless doc to them, if they can do that at all. Doing that also hides the content from search engines so others may never benefit from this.

I'm sure you understand, and we look forward to seeing you post your formulas/macros in your posts for the searching benefit of all.

Thanks again for all your hard work here!

If I had not worked with this before, your comment tells me exactly nothing! Please explain what you are doing, and how to do it - remember, we are often dealing with complete novices here that may have very low skill levels with excel
