Match text strings

Hi all,

even though I doubt that this is possible (or maybe requires VBA) I will give it a try and ask for help. :o)

I am trying to map two lists of equipment, unfortunately, there is no naming convention, so that same piece could have different names. So in the attached file in column A I have a list, that needs to be matched to the most similar name form column K (longest text string). Does anyone have an idea? It should only match if at least 5 letters are the same.

Anyone an idea?

Hi,

Personally I'd use Excel's Fuzzy Lookup Add In which can be downloaded from this MS site

You can use the Add In to fine tune what you regard as an acceptable match.

Trying to do this with standard Excel string slicing functionality would be non trivial.
