Using the value function in a countifs formula

    Hi All,

I am trying to use a formula to perform a count how many times a date falls in between two date ranges. My problem is the date I am trying to use is exported to text format. To get the value of the text format, I want to use the =value() function.
But when I try to nest the =value() function in the countifs() function, i get the error that says I am not entering a proper formula. Is there a nuance I am missing here?

    Thank you,

    Vincent

Yes, you can't perform any operations on the range in a COUNTIFS function.

You could convert the (text) dates into proper dates in another column, and then use that column as your range in the COUNTIFS formula.

Alternatively, you can use a SUMPRODUCT function to do the count.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks! Sum Product worked wonders. Although I don't understand the logic as to why sum product would be used as a counting function.

If there isn't a range to sum then eventually SP will end up adding a series of TRUE/FALSE values (or 1's and zeroes), which is the same as counting the rows which match the criteria.

If that takes care of your original question, please take a moment to select Thread Tools from the menu above and to the right of your first post in this thread, and mark the thread as SOLVED.
