There are more than 500 matches in my spreadsheet. I only listed out 10 matches in the attachement. I want to find out how many matches between Dennis and Peter play together? The result is 6 of 10 matches.

Hi and welcome
please add some expected results on your sheet, so we can check.
Thanks
Sorry, I have revised it
Hello Kllai and Welcome to Excel Forum.
This proposal adds a table which may be moved and or hidden for aesthetic purposes.
Of the various formulas that populate the table:
1. A list of distinct names is produced using: =INDEX(B$2:B$120,MATCH(0,INDEX(COUNTIF(J$2:J2,B$2:B$120),,),))
2. The matches played by a player is identified using: =COUNTIFS($B$2:$B$120,$J3,$A$2:$A$120,K$2)
Note that K2:T2 are populated using the match numbers
3. The players whose common matches are counted are identified using: =OR(J3=F$2,J3=G$2)
4. Row 27 is populated using: =COUNTIFS(K3:K25,1,$I3:$I25,TRUE)
5. The yellow cell is populated using: =COUNTIFS(K27:T27,2)
Note that row 27 displays 0,1 or 2 and the yellow cell counts the 2's.
