    Entering new data affects sorting

    Hello everyone,

I am making an excel sheet for a golf league and it is getting pretty frustrating. I think I have a lot of it working but my main issue now is my Player list in the set up tab.

Essentially, all of my tournaments (1, 2, 3) take the names from this list, as well as the standings tab and then it goes from there. The problem, is when a new player has entered the league, and I put their name into the list and sort again, all of the previous tournaments also get affected, and the scores will now be wrong.

    Hopefully this makes sense.

    Re: Golf League Help

    it make sense...

just, don't sort it at Set Up sheet

    1. List is automatic, but score is entered manually on different sheet 1,2,3

    Suggestion

    1. we could autosort in sheet League Standings, column F

I could do that, but i don't think that solves the problem, unless I am thinking of this wrong. I can absolutely sort from that column, and i would like to since it would make it easier for people to find themselves. But if I add a new person into the league, and into that column, a week or anytime after the league has started and sort the names again, the names will be sorted correctly, but the total points will not correspond to the right person. Thats the issue I am trying to figure out.

Re: Entering new data affects sorting

I agree with biex, in that you don't need to sort the set up sheet. Instead I would suggest:
    1. Reducing the data in the game tables to only the rows containing names
    2. Producing a Power Query table (modeled in green on sheet 1) using the following advanced editor code:
Please Login or Register to view this content.
From there produce pivot tables. The pivot table will alphabetize the names by default (see the sum of total points pivot table) or you may sort by value (see the average score pivot table).
Let us know if you have any questions.
