formatting for individual cells on one column based on drop downs from another

I Understand how to do this already, however, it is extremely TEDIOUS and I'm wondering if there is an easier way:

Example: I have row A1:A100, and I have row B1:B100

I want A1's color to change by B1's value, and A2's color to change by B2's value etc..., However I don't want to input the individual conditional formats for each cell in column A because I have a lot.

Right now I've been using =OR($B$1="Submitted",$B$1="Approved") to change A1 color....=OR($B$2="Submitted",$B$2="Approved") to change A2 color etc...

Is there any easier way to do this? like using VBA to associate Array positions? Im stumped.
