How to replace numbers, which can be multiple, by one number in a separate column

    Hi all

I have a row with numbers (1 to 13000), a number can be there once or multiple times. I want to replace those numbers in a separate column by numbers from 1 to x. The same number in the original column should be replaced by the identical number in the new column.

    How can I do that?

Read the yellow banner at the top of this page on how to attach a sample.

Is the file your proposed solution (mocked up) as asked or the situation before a solution. I have no idea what to do with what you provided. Perhaps an explanation using your example and telling us what the results should look like. Sorry, this may be clear to you, but I don't have a crystal ball to help me.

The file is the proposed solution. I want to generate the first column with a function. The second column are the data I already have. I hope this explanation makes it more clear..

    In A2, type 1.
In A3, type =IF(B3=B2,A2,A2+1) and copy down.
