Countif Function Doesn't Properly Count Unique Characters

Hello, I have a inventory excel sheet that I am working on and am trying to use the count if function to identify unique barcodes that belong to speperate bins (each item is stored in a unique bin in a storage room.) Each barcode starts with the bin it is in and followed by a barcode unique to the item. I am using the countif function to count the barcodes as they are scanned into the sheet but I have encountered an issue. Say my barcode belongs in A - 1 and that is the bin that it needs to be counted in. If I scan it into the list of barcodes it is also added to bin A - 10. I assume the issue is it starts the same way and adds it to both. Is there a way around this? Attached is an example of the issue I am facing.
Thank you, any and all help is appreciated. If anything needs clarification I am willing to answer.

    How about putting a space after the 1 for Bin A-1? =COUNTIF($A:A,"A - 1 *")

No problem --- as long as there is a space between the 1 and the rest of the digits, it should work.
