Adding One Column Based on Criteria in Another

    Hi.

Bit of a newbie to Excel, so would appreciate some help with a couple of formula's, I think using "COUNTIF"

In column C2:C100 I have either A, B or C, and in column L2:L100 I have different amounts of money.

How would I add the corresponding figures up?

    For example:

    If C2, C6, C7, C12 was "A" and L2 was 2, L6 was 3.50, L7 was 2.88 and L12 was 4.12

    Then if C3 and C4 was "B" and L3 was 5 and L4 was 3

I hope that explains what I'm after. Basically I want to add up all the A's, B's and C's.

Use a pivot table. Or place a sample file.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

Apologies Ali. I'm quite new to this forum and Excel, and thanks for changing the title.

Re: Adding One Column Based on Criteria in Another

Sorry to be a pain, but I've never done anything with a Pivot Table. I can see the answer (ie totals of A, B and C) but I have no idea how they got there.
I've tried C&P the table into my actual spreadsheet, but I'm still lost.
