Copy and Paste Conditional formatting

    Hi,

I have a rota where people can be assigned to a particular venue. Each venue has a colour and I've written CF rules to apply this colour to the range of cells for that particular day.

    e.g. rule - =$H$8="A/L" format -fill red Applies to - =$H$8:$J$10

This appears to work as I'd expect, the range "=$H$8:$J$10" becomes red when I type "A/L" into H8. If I make the reference relative then it only appears to affect H8 even though the range is still the same.

The following problem is that if I copy these rules from Wednesday, for example, to Thursday =$K$8:$M$10 using the Format Painter, then the reference remains the same, H8.

I'd rather not have to manually change the reference cell every time I paste as I've got 6 rules to copy across 6 people across 7 days.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

My best advice regarding CF is NOT to use copy and paste or the format painter! Just set the ranges in the applies to box - in your case, either extend the range, or add ranges separated by commas.

However, if the reference cell needs to change from H8 to K8, then you are going to need a separate rule for each day - sorry.

Re: Copy and Paste Conditional formatting

I tend to agree with Ali on this. I have seen a specific CF rule repeated as many times as the rule was copied (copied 5 times, rule was repeated 5 times)
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
