Name maanger for one frozen row (name/id) and other cells

    Hi guys,

Is there a way I can use name manager for my spreadhseet, where I use an ID (column A) or name (column B) to create columns as part of name maanger for each month.

I.e Column C, is May 2020. I have 3 columns with the holiday pay, total (for work pay), then a column for holiday + total.

I want to have name manager to show: Holiday pay for john in may, total (for work pay) in may for john, holiday + total in may for John.

Then I can create this for the other employees and repeat this process for other months.

I need this to easily calculate accruals over more than 1 month. Rather than doing cell references.

    Any help appreciated pls!

I read this yesterday and have done so again fresh this morning and I'm really not clear what the issue is. The answer is yes, you can create named ranges for any range you wish to specify, but you can't automate it - you'd need to do it manually.

    Hi Ali,

Sorry I don't intend to automate anything but I know that if I can have name manager defined for each month's 3 columns for each employee, this would be really helpful for me and what i`m trying to achieve

I.e Column C, is May 2020. I have 3 columns with the holiday pay, total (for work pay), then a column for holiday + total.

I want to have name manager to show: Holiday pay for john in may, total (for work pay) in may for john, holiday + total in may for John.

Once i know how i can do this for john for may, I will repeat the process for another individual for the month of may, then repeat this process for the individuals in june

Are you simply asking how to create named ranges?

Click on the cell containing John's May holiday payment - with this cell selected, change the name box top left (where it shows the cell reference (e.g. D2)) to something like John_May_Holiday. Rinse and repeat for all other cells you want to have as named ranges.

I'm still not sure if this is what you mean, and I am absolutely sure there's a less labour-intensive way of structuring your formulae, but with such scant information, it's impossible to advise further.
