Countifs but ignore text values in criteria

Dear All,

I have do count of particular nationality of employees based on their grades. However some of the grades in my company are in text like Graduate Trainee as "GT" etc.

Please suggest way to ignore text in countifs function.

Also I know easy way out is to replace grades in text with numbers ....but looking for other options.

Appreciate also if someone can do same solution with sumproduct function as well
