Extract part number from a description in an cell

    Hi

How do I identify and extract a part number (alphanumeric) from a description text.

Description text example is “Bearing, ball, annular: 654793-2rs/c3, smf”

The value to be extracted is 654793-2rs/c3 which can be anywhere in any description, with or without any deliminators. I have a lot of different part numbers to find in descriptions and am looking for a logical way to do it.

    Please advise, cheers Greg

You have to supply more samples to understand the structure of the alphanumeric part numbers.

Probably a VBA function is required for the solution...

Have a look at the top of this page to attach a sample workbook.

It can probably be done with a formula or PowerQuery, but we need at least 10 lines of sample data to cover all permutations, please. If you want help, you need to make a little bit more of an effort yourself, otherwise all you will get is solutions that you have to then tell us are wrong because we haven't guessed that there is something in another line in your data that we didn't know about ...

    Hi Team

Thanks for the response so far.

Please find attached a sample spreadsheet showing descriptions, Part Numbers and my attempt at extracting the part numbers

Do note that column B is the example of what should be extracted from the description

I do know that it will always not be 100% accurate but its a start.

    Cheers, Greg
