    XLOOKUP advice/discussion

Now that XLOOKUP has been released in the July 2020 update i had a few questions regarding how it works.

    1. I have read that XLOOKUP returns #REF if linking to another workbook, and that workbook is closed (similar to sumif). I have tried to reenact this problem and I have not been able to recreate. So can you use an XLOOKUP with workbooks closed?

    2. XLOOKUP/XMATCH are both released for Office 365. What happens if i save a document which utilizes these functions and someone without office 365 opens the workbook? Will this cause errors in the workbook for them?

    2. What are peoples thoughts on this new function. Will you guys start dropping the vlookup, index match, or even the index match match for XLOOKUP?

    Re: XLOOKUP advice/discussion

All functions will return an error if the workbook is opened in a version of Excel that does not support the function, so the new functions are no different in that.
AFAIK both those function can be used across workbook, although haven't tried it.

As long as I don't need backwards compatibility, I use the new functions.
