AVERAGEIF formula and using another column

    Good morning all,
I'm having trouble using this formula. I have several columns and "YEAR" and "RESIDENTIAL" are the only 2 I want to use the AVERAGEIF on.

I want to AVERAGE only the years 2010 and GREATER AND only the RESIDENTIAL column.

The error I'm getting is, "Not trying to type a formula? When the first character is an equal(=) sign or minus, Excel thinks it's a formula...."

Seems like this would be straightforward.

    Thanks for any help

Re: AVERAGEIF formula and using another column

    Hello,
Fast answers need clear examples. Post a small Excel sheet (not a picture) showing realistic & representative sample data WITHOUT confidential information (10-20 rows, not thousands...) and some manually calculated results. Just before posting, scroll down to GO ADVANCED, click, and then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click again. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

I have tried to run the formula. This could be a situation where AND might be used?

    Hi,
    Try this:
    =AVERAGEIF(A:A,">2010",D:D)

    That was it.

Many thx. I didn't know that the ">" had to be in the quotes.
