    Incrementing Cell Reference

I am trying to use the formula =ROWS() for counting and having trouble making it work inside of a table.
So if I type the formula =ROWS(A$1:A1) in cell A1, and drag the little handle down manually, it increments just fine. But when I use that same formula in a table it does not work.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ron

May be inside your table cell format is text. That's why your formula is not working. So make the cell format general where you want to write your formula.

    Welcome to the forum.

    I do not see that.

Please attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

    Re: Incrementing Cell Reference

    Welcome to the forum!

I have found that this will work in a table:

    A$2:[@FieldName]

See if it works for you.

    If not, maybe this:

    =ROWS(TableName[[#Headers],[FieldName]:A2)

    or this:

    =ROWS(TableName[[#Headers],[FieldName]:A2)-1

    Re: Incrementing Cell Reference

    AliGW,

I did try it and the first example worked like a charm.
Just curious as to why the cell reference names do not work.

    Thank you so much,
    Ron

    Re: Incrementing Cell Reference

I don't know the answer, I just know that they don't in tables.
