    Excel 2016 Conditional Concatenate

    Hello,

I'm a using Excel 2016 so won't be able to use functions like textjoin.

In column A I'm trying to get a list of just the first 6 fully or partially incorrect question numbers, this needs to include possibilities like 11a or 11b.
In column B I need the first 6 MW clip numbers which correspond to the incorrect question numbers.

    Thanks!
    Jack

    Hi

How are you defining 'fully or partially incorrect' and 'incorrect numbers'. Is that something to do with the cells' colours or the 0,1,2....values in the cells?

    Re: Excel 2016 Conditional Concatenate

    hello, thanks for the reply
fully incorrect would be a score of 0 (cell highlighted in red)
partially incorrect would be that the score is less the cell in row 4 but not 0 (highlighted in yellow)
fully correct would be that the cell is equal to the value of the cell in row 4 (highlighted green)

    Option 1. Helper columns.

Option 2. A UDF which requires saving as .xlsm (macro enabled).

Which way do you want to go?

Please populate your sheet with 3 or 4 rows of manually calculated expected results.

How to install your new code
    Copy the Excel VBA code
Select the workbook in which you want to store the Excel VBA code
Press Alt+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor
    Choose Insert > Module
Edit > Paste the macro into the module that appeared
    Close the VBEditor
Save your workbook (Excel 2007+ select a macro-enabled file format, like *.xlsm)
    [B][I]

    In A5:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    In B5:
    =LEFT(SUBSTITUTE(ConcatAll(IF(C5:AU5<$C$4:$AU$4,$C$2:$AU$2,""),", ")&"¦",",","¦",6),SEARCH("¦",SUBSTITUTE(ConcatAll(IF(C5:AU5<$C$4:$AU$4,$C$2:$AU$2,""),", ")&"¦",",","¦",6))-1)

These are both array formulae. Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...
