    match value between sheets

I am having difficulty in creating a formula.

I am trying to see if values in Column A in Worksheet 1, match with values in Column A in Worksheet 2.

Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated.

Please amend your forum post title to something that is more appropriate to your problem. (per forum rule #1)
And I'd recommend you look into vlookup, xlookup or index/match for your needs.

    Re: match value between sheets

Hi. A good thread title is the sort of thing you would use as a search term on Google. Your title would produce a squillion useless hits. In future, please take a bit more time to think of a descriptive title that would be Google-friendly. Many people search the forum answers looking for help and your very general title wouldn't help (see also Forum Rule 1... which is very short!!).

You are a new user of this site. On this occasion, I have changed it for you.

However, if you continue to use weak titles, you can expect to have your thread blocked until you change iy yourself. If that happens, to edit the thread title, open the original post, click "Edit Post" (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? However, please give us an indication of the approximate number of rows of data you want the solution to work with (100, 1000, 100,000 or whatever). Please DO NOT attach a picture of an Excel sheet (I do not have the patience to re-type any/all your stuff before starting).

    1. It does NOT have to be your real sheet - mock up a SAMPLE if you need to. But not 1000's of rows!!! It makes manual checking so tedious. Whatever you do... make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    2. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. For example, don't show text in a column if it's really a number. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    3. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually). To be honest, I am not interested in seeing a non-working formula... or a pile of blank cells. However, I am very interested in seeing your EXPECTED results in their EXPECTED location.

    4. Try not to use merged cells. They cause lots of problems and are DEFINITELY best avoided!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So,... instead click on Go Advanced (below the Edit Window) while composing your reply, then scroll down to and click on Manage Attachments and the Upload window will open. Click on Browse and navigate to (and double-click) the file icon that you want to attach, then click on Upload and then on Close this Window to return to the Edit window. When you have finished composing your post, click on Submit Post.

    Re: match value between sheets

The Moderators will want you to change your thread title to comply with forum rules.

And note that it's always useful to provide a sample workbook.

If you just want to know if a value is present in the second worksheet, you can use COUNTIF.

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about. Tell us what you are trying to do, not how you think it should be done.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. No help to be offered until this moderation request has been fulfilled.)

    Re: match value between sheets

Well, Glenn did change the post title for you, but it would still be helpful for you to upload a sample workbook, it doesn't have to be anything elaborate, just enough information so we can see what you have AND what you want.
