Angry Auto Generate Next Numerical Value e.g. Invoice Number According to Latest Date and Time

Hi there to all members of this forum.

There may appear to be a very easy solution to my question but it's really bugging me and so I hope someone may be able to assist me?

I require excel to automatically generate the next invoice number in column 3 after a date and time has been entered in any one of the cells in column 2.

    eg.

Stock No. Sale Date/Time Invoice No.
    1 03-Nov-20 3:00 PM 2
    2 01-Nov-20 1:00 PM 1
    3
    4 10-Nov-20 10:00 AM 4
    5
    6
    7 10-Nov-20 3:00 PM 5
    8 05-Nov-20 5:00 PM 3
    9
    10 15-Nov-20 12:00 PM 6

I have attached a sample workbook for reference.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance in this matter.

    Bobby.

    Hiya Kaper,

You don't have the title of 'Forum Guru' for no reason.

I've been pulling my hair out for weeks on end and you simply provide an solution within like half an hour.

Not only that but I can't believe the solution works 100% and is exactly what i was looking for.

    Cannot thank you enough.

    Best Regards

    Hiya Kaper,

Many thanks for all your help with my query. I still can't believe how easily you managed to crack it.

I even applied your formula to my stock number column and it worked a treat for that too.

I have added to your reputation with a positive note also.

Any idea what alteration to the formula I would need to make if the data was to be copied over from one file to the next.

    For example,

Stock numbers which are unsold at the end of one financial year (file 1) are copied forward to the next financial year (file 2).

Therefore the stock numbers and invoice numbers for items sold would no longer be showing in the following year.

Furthermore, the second year numbers are now out of sequence.

If I apply the same formula you provided for the second year, my stock numbers and invoice numbers start from number one again which is not what i require.

I would like the stock numbers and invoice numbers to follow on from one year to the next.

I have uploaded a sample workbook with your formula provided for your reference and easier understanding.

    Kind Regards,

    Bobby...
