    All about the timings

Hi everyone. I don't know much about excel and would appreciate some help.
I have a column to show average time taken to complete a task monthly.
    Ie. Jan 2.01
    Feb 1.23

I then want to have a running average at the bottom of the column to show year to date average of time .
I have tried =average(a1:A2)/1440. But the result is 1.37. When actually it should be 1.42?

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Hi there.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. An Excel sheet is worth 1,000 pictures.

Please read the yellow banner about sample worksheets, at the top of the screen. Act on its guidelines and post a SMALL sample sheet.

Difficult to say without knowing exactly what is in A1 and A2, and why you think the average of those two values divided by 1440 should be 1.42. Can you fill in some details? Maybe upload a sample file (see yellow banner at the top)?

    Re: All about the timings

What do the numbers 2.01 and 1.23 represent? decimal hours and minutes (or minutes and seconds), or hours with minutes shown after the decimal point (i.e. from .0 to .59 ) ?

It would help if you attached a sample Excel workbook - see the yellow banner at the top of the screen for details of how to do so.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
