Convert a cell from text to number then carry out a formula

Hello,

I need to write a formula that looks at a cell which in text format but which has a leading number at the start of the text which I need for the rest of the formula to look at this number and see if it is greater than a value in another cell.

In the example attached, ideally I would like a one-step formula written in cell C6 that looks at the text in cell A6, takes the leading number, in this case 12 then does an 'IF' function from the number 12 and checks that it is greater than 3. If so, return a '1', if not, then a '0' in cell C6.

If this formula cannot convert the text in cell A6 in one step then I have added column B headed 'stage' which can have another formula to convert cell A6 from text to number if required.

The idea being is that I am trying to automate this spreadsheet as much as possible so that when new raw data is populated in column A, the formula's kick in and update the values without manual intervention.
