    Conditional Formatting

    Good morning,

I have a cell (J7) that I will apply conditional formatting to, it will look at J6 and run the rule. What I would like to do is copy this conditional format to K7 and have it look at K6 and L7 to look at L6 and so on. When I try to copy the conditional formatting using painter or paste special, each cell still references back to J6.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you,

    Chris

    Re: Conditional Formatting

    Hi,
Fast answers need clear examples. Post a small Excel sheet (not a picture) showing realistic & representative sample data WITHOUT confidential information (10-20 rows, not thousands...) and some manually calculated results. Just before posting, scroll down to GO ADVANCED, click, and then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click again. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Re: Conditional Formatting

Have you used relative referencing to the condition referring to J6 (like $J6) $J$6 is absolute and should not be used

    Re: Conditional Formatting

Pepe, I do not want to reference J6 for every cell. J7 should reference J6, K7 should reference K6, L7 should reference L6 and so on. Anytime I try to copy the formatting it keeps J6 and that's not what I want.

    Regards,

    Re: Conditional Formatting

That was en example based on the little we knew. Use J$6 then which is relative to the column
You have been using $J$6 as a reference which is absolute
