    Formula function

    What is this formula for =P$38*$D$8.

    Thanks for any help.

    It multiplies the value in P38 by the value in D8.

    The $s in formulas will lock column/row references when the formula is copied horizontally or vertically.

    $ before the column letter will mean if you copy the formula horizontally the letter will stay the same.
    $ before the row number will mean if you copy the formula vertically the number will stay the same.
    $ before both column letter and row number will mean both will stay the same no matter where you copy that formula to.

    So in the case of your formula, if you copy it to the cell below where it currently is the formula will not change. But if you copy it to the cell to the right of where it currently is it will change to =Q$38*$D$8
