1st, 2nd & 3rd most common text based on multiple criteria?

    Hi All,

I'm really struggling to try and get this one working. I can get it to work out these based on 1 criteria but I'm struggling to get it to work for multiple.

Basically I have a set of data in which I want to extract the 1st, 2nd & 3rd most common outcomes based on matching a name and a month.

So lets say I am looking for Bob's name, then data which is from Jan-20 and I want to know his top 3 common outcomes.

Any ideas before my head explodes? haha

    Thanks in advance

    Shaun

Your profile says Excel 2003, but you have attached an .xlsx. Please update your profile to show your current excel version.

    =IFERROR(INDEX($B$2:$B$41,MODE(IF(COUNTIF($F2:F2,$B$2:$B$41)=0,IF($A$2:$A$41=$F2,IF($C$2:$C$41=$E$2,MATCH($B$2:$B$41,$B$2:$B$41,0)+{0,0}))))),"")

copied across and down. If you are NOT using Office 365, the formula above is an array formula.

These are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see the curly brackets { } appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...
