Good morning!
I've inherited an excel document that I'm modifying as I go to suit my needs. The creator had set up data validation for some columns with drop down lists, but instead of pulling the list variables from a range of cells located elsewhere, the options are listed under source in DV settings. Is there a way to add new variables to this list and copy to the other cells in the column to update them easily? I tried checking the box for 'Apply these changes to all other cells with the same settings', but it didn't appear to do anything. When I tried to copy and paste the formula settings, it updated the other cells, but changed them to the variable selected in the first.
If there weren't so many cells to update, I'd just clear them and have them reference a list from a range in my hidden sheet as those are easily adjusted, but if I can avoid manually re-selecting each correct variable I'd prefer a different method.
EDIT: Nevermind, fiddled with it some more and found a solution. If I go into Data Validation and clear the current Source variables and replace with the location of my range, it keeps the current selection (since it's in the new range) and updates the dropdown with the additional ones I needed to add. Leaving the post in case anyone else runs into a similar issue.
