Summing a column due to an IF FUNCTION

    excel-snip.PNG

As you can see in the above image.

I have a section with a drop down list of text. The text has all been defined as values e.g General_Materials =1.3. This is what I need to markup my products by.

I then have an IF function in my SELL column, that will markup by the different markup. In the example it is written as General_Material therefore the sell column is being marked up by 1.3.

Is there a way to SUM my TOTAL column where the markup =General_Materials and the same for the other markups?

Also if i have overcomplciated as simpler solution would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

Your version looks like a release of MS365 - if that is so, please update your profile. Thanks.

You can use SUMIF for that, though you don't make it clear where the formula is to occur in your sheet. Attach a sample Excel workbook as detailed in the yellow banner at the top of the screen, and then it might become clearer.

I have uploaded an extracted version of the excel file, hope this helps.

The summed total for each markup would go into a separate sheet at the back for accounting.

Remove the "s" from the end of General Materials in cell B4 of the Accounting sheet, then you can use this formula in cell C4:

    =SUMIF('Item Details'!$A$4:$A$15,$B4,'Item Details'!F$4:F$15)

Copy this into D4, then copy both formulae down to row 10.

    Hope this helps.
