    Understanding how a formula works

    Hello,

Could someone please explain how the if{1,0} works in the formula below and also how the {Comments/remarks,Name,Address,DOB,POB,Nationality,Oracle IDů}2 works ?

I understand that the curly braces are used for arrays...just do not understand how they apply to this formula.

=VLOOKUP(Unique Transaction ID column&Details Required column, if{1,0},Previous Unique Transaction ID column&Previous Details Required column,{Comments/remarks,Name,Address,DOB,POB,Nationality,Oracle IDů}2,0)

    Thank you !!

Re: Understanding how a formula works

    Hi mrawst:

    Welcome to the forum.

It might be easier to understand what the formula's doing by seeing it in action. Can you upload a sample of a sanitized workbook? Instructions are at the top of this page. From what I found though, it allows for the searching for multiple conditions and dependent results based upon the selection.

    Thx.
    Pete

    Hello Pete

Unfortunately I am unable to upload the workbook due to sensitive data. I am hoping someone can explain those 2 segments in the formula in a general sense relative to how a vlookup would perform.

    Thank you !

Thats why you were asked for a sanitized (clean/dummy/mock) file

They usualy using IF({0,1}...to create a new range from given multi ranges.

    See my example.

In this sample, I am using 2 columns, so you can see it simple. But for the big range, it would be helpful.
