Index Match Year data comparison

Hi,
I have a workbook with two year data. In this, Sheet 1 contain Jan 2020 and sheet 2 contain Jan 2021 data. Sheet 3 is Master data. I need to compare these data based on its category code. In Master sheet, all data must be automated including Category column (Column A) based on previous year and current year sheets category code. Category columns may difference in each sheet. Some category code may miss or add in both sheets. Example workbook is attached. Could you please help me to solve this. Thanks in advance. I'm using Excel 2016 & Office 365. Sorry for bad English.

Regards,
Cathrine.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Thank you Dohvakin for your reply, But I need the master sheet fully automated without entering category code in A coulmn (Master Sheet). Bcz, the data of sheet 1 and 2 will always change and the master sheet also need to change without enter any values based on other sheets.

Sorry for off-topic interjection:

Although there is no official rule regarding this behaviour, we request that wherever possible both the question AND the answer be provided in substantive detail here within the thread. An attached workbook is an excellent aid for posing a question and offering a solution, but solely doing that with no in thread explanation makes it difficult for researchers to understand or consider the Q & A of this thread without downloading what may be a pointless doc to them, if they can do that at all. Doing that also hides the content from search engines so others may never benefit from this.

I'm sure you understand, and we look forward to seeing you post your formulas/macros in your posts for the searching benefit of all.

Thank you so much JohnTopley,
It is very helpful for me. If it is with formula one (I mean - Master Sheet Column-A(Cat.Code), it would be more helpful for me. I can apply formula in master sheet A column permanently.

Re: Index Match Year data comparison

The "Cat Code" is obtained by combining those from Sheet1 and "Sheet2, removing duplicates and sorting. this was done to address my interpretation of your specification

Category columns may difference in each sheet. Some category code may miss or add in both sheets.
If Cat Code in "Master" are fixed i.e. no new ones will be added,, then you only need the VLOOKUP formulae: no VBA.
