    Transposing data

    Hi,

I have lot currency conversion data that needs to be transposed so we can load it to a DB. The existing data in the tab 'raw data' and final results are required in the transpose tab.

Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

    Re: Transposing data

Due to security restrictions no macros are allowed so I will have to rely on formulas.

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

Rule 03: Cross-posting Without Telling Us

Your post does not comply with Rule 3 of our Forum RULES. Do not cross-post your question on multiple forums without telling us about your threads on other forums.

Post a link to any other forums where you have asked the same question.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this.

I have added the crosspost reference for you today. Please comply with this and all our rules in the future

    Re: Transposing data

You did not follow the instructions properly - the method described in the yellow banner above works.

If you have asked the same question on even more other forums, then you should be providing links to all of them (I say this because I know that Mr Excel do not allow attachments ...).

Our rules are really simple, but to follow them you first have to read them (and you've already agreed to them ...), so here's a link for your convenience: https://www.excelforum.com/forum-rul...rum-rules.html

    Re: Transposing data

    OK!!

In A2, copiued across and down:

    =IF($D2="","",Sheet1!A$2)

In D2 (probably an array formula in your version of Excel):
    =TRANSPOSE(Sheet1!D1:U1)

    copied down. Similar in E2.

You seem to be using an older version of Excel than me. So, please refer to the attached file. If the formulae are enclosed within a pair of { }, these are array formulae.

These are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see the curly brackets { } appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...

    Re: Transposing data

    @Azumi

    Sorry for off-topic interjection:

Although there is no official rule regarding this behaviour, we request that wherever possible both the question AND the answer be provided in substantive detail here within the thread. An attached workbook is an excellent aid for posing a question and offering a solution, but solely doing that with no in thread explanation makes it difficult for researchers to understand or consider the Q & A of this thread without downloading what may be a pointless doc to them, if they can do that at all. Doing that also hides the content from search engines so others may never benefit from this.

I'm sure you understand, and we look forward to seeing you post your formulas/macros in your posts for the searching benefit of all.

    Re: Transposing data

For multiple rows in Raw Data Sheet
    In A2
    =IFERROR(INDEX('Raw data'!A:A,AGGREGATE(15,6,ROW('Raw data'!$A$2:$A$10)/(('Raw data'!$A$2:$A$10<>"")*(COUNTIF(OFFSET('Raw data'!$D$2:$AD$2,0,0,ROW('Raw data'!$A$2:$A$10)-ROW('Raw data'!$A$1)),">=0")>=ROWS($A$2:$A2))),1)),"")
    IN B2
    =IF($A2="","",INDEX('Raw data'!B:B,MATCH($A2,'Raw data'!$A:$A,0)))
    In D2
    =IFERROR(IF($A2="","",SUBSTITUTE(INDEX('Raw data'!$D$1:$AD$1,COUNTIF($A$2:$A2,$A2)),"Curncy","")),"")
    In E2
    =IFERROR(INDEX('Raw data'!$D:$AD,MATCH($A2,'Raw data'!$A:$A,0),COUNTIF($A$2:$A2,$A2)),"")

It wasn't either - it was post #17, immediately above post #18. I'll edit it slightly to make it super clear for you.
