Numbers List of Matching Number

I saw this Google sheets formula that would match the numbers in column A and then number them according to the matching numbers. When I try this formula in Excel it does not work. Does anyone know how to do this same formula in Excel? Thanks

Is there any reason why you are using the near-obsolete .xls format which was replaced by .xlsx in Excel 2007???

Yes, I have only ever used Google Sheets and am brand new to Excel. But thanks for the feedback

I'm sure the GS version could have been simpler, too... but I've never used GS.
