Google Sheets - Mandatory fields to fill in

    Hello,

I'm new to Google Sheet, and for a school assignment. I need to use Google Sheets to do it.
I would like to set up an obligation to fill in the box(es) when selecting a data.
    • For example, if it is a new patient, then it is mandatory to fill in the following boxes: Patient Name, Address, Reason for consultation, Blood Pressure, Pulse...
I would like to use a conditional formatting by color but I don't know how to do it.
The boxes change color when the mandatory cells are not filled. If the cells have been filled then they become "normal".

    • I don't know if it's possible, for one patient, they may come for several reasons for consultation. The column has been formatted with "data validation"; however I would like a second line (a cell) normal - where you can fill in comments for example. (see image).
Is it possible to do this? I have searched but have not found a solution. Do you have another idea?
At the end, I would like, for example, to make a graph regrouping the reasons for consultation for the patient.

    Thank you for your help,

apply conditional formatting if the cells are blank

I would like a second line (a cell) normal - where you can fill in comments
it is possible to do that, but it is not good spreadsheet structure to do so, it would be better to simply have another column for additional comments

I would like, for example, to make a graph regrouping the reasons for consultation for the patient.
a graph is a visual representation of the data, so you would need a list of reasons preconfigured so that they can be grouped accordingly.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your answer.
I don't know how to do it with a condition. If I select in Type of Patient: New, so the ligne is colored - and if it is filled so no color.

you can use two conditional formatting rules, which when applied in the correct order will highlight only the blank cells when there is a patient number.

for the top CF, simply apply to the range when "Cell is not empty"
for the bottom CF, applied to the same range, use "Custom formula is" with this formula:
