    Looking for blanks

    Hi All,

Scenario: I am trying to figure out how to look for dates (none in particular, just making sure the cell isn't empty) in different columns so the way I was doing it was

=IF(ISBLANK(A1), B1, A1) But if both Both B1 and A1 are blank how can I make the formula also look in cell C1? and if theres nothing in C1 then return nothing.

    Thank you!

    Re: Looking for blanks

Awesome! It worked! is there a way to keep adding to it if I need to check other columns? or is there another way to write the syntax with IF and isblank statements?

    Thank you!

    Re: Looking for blanks

Look at the logic. All 3 not numeric (alphanumeric or blank), first 2 not numeric (C1), only 1 not numeric (B1 or A1). If the contents of the cells are alphanumeric or numeric values, you could use ISBLANK() to test them but, if they are formulae, you can't.

It's not really scalable. Easy enough to check if all 4, or 5, or 6, etc, are not numeric … you said you were checking for dates … but after that you've got quite a few combinations to check.

    Re: Looking for blanks

I tend not to use ISBLANK(). I more often test for ="".

    So you could have
    Formula: copy to clipboard
