Linking to contents in a cell

I can't for the life of me remember how to link to the contents in the cell and I can't remember the keywords to search for it on google.

I'm using google sheets because I didn't pay for excel so I hope it still works the same.

But I remember I was able to link in sheet 2 to a cell in sheet 1 by the contents of the cell in sheet 2, for example please see image below:

Basically I could use the two cells above that say "sheet 1" "a1" and use those to return whatever is in sheet 1 a1 and then I can copy that formula to the right so I can then get "sheet 1 b1" "sheet 1 c1" etc.

I think I had to use " " and & but I can't remember. Any help would be really appreciated.

    Do you mean

    in Sheet2

    =Sheet1!A1

    ??
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.

Yes but it would be based on the cells above.

If the cells above said "sheet 1" "c10"

It would link to sheet1c10. If I change "c10" to "z4" it would link to sheet1z4.

If I change from sheet1 to "sheet 3" and "j5" it would link to sheet3j5.

I want to be able to manipulate the above 2 cells to the sheet I want and the cell reference I want.

Instead of using = and clicking on the cell in the sheet. Cause that would make it unchangeable.

    Maybe in B3 copied right:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
    =INDIRECT(B1&"!"&B2)
