    Have table populate rows automatically

    Hi there,

I have a table in excel which looks up to a range on another sheet within the document. At the moment, only the top row in the table holds the lookup formulas, and I have a cell next to the table which counts the rows in the range, to tell the user how many rows to drag the table down.

I wonder if, instead of having the user drag the cells down, the table could figure out how many rows to populate itself, by looking at the range?

If this were a structured table, it would populate itself.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data. It also has expected results mocked up, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

Re: Have table populate rows automatically

The table does not populate itself, as the top row contains lookup formulas to another tab within the document. These have to be dragged down to the right number of rows. I just wondered if there was a way of asking the table to look at the number of rows, and dragging itself down somehow. Probably not!

No idea without seeing what you are working with. That's why I asked for a sample workbook. Can you provide one?

Re: Have table populate rows automatically

i think i have the same question, but maybe a little different. i know my formula columns in my table (Table_X) will fill based on the number of rows in the table, but my issue is that I need the number of table rows to be dynamic.
For instance, if column C has 10 unique values i want Table_X to be 10 rows....and when the number of unique values change in Column C, then i want Table_X to grow or shrink to match those rows. and also automatically number the first Table column with a incremented number 1 thru (# if unique values).
Its kindof like I want to create a Dynamic Table based off a Dynamic Array spill range. and since you cannot use spill ranges inside of Excel Tables, then i need a creative work around.
