Automatic cell population from another tab

    Hi There,

I'm very new here and apologies if this has been discussed before. If it was please point me in the right direction and if not wonder if anyone could help.

I am currently working a resource capacity planning view. In general I have 3 types of projects and a team of 4 skill types that are needed to help at some point during that project (hrs / week), which is static. (Data tab in the attached example). What I am trying to do is based on the selection of a project type, start date and skill type in the pipeline tab the data from the data sheet corresponding to that selection would automatically populate in the pipeline tab starting of course from the project start date.

Would this be possible at all and if so could anyone help please?

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the version of Office (Excel) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this. Thanks.

You have not manually mocked up on the pipeline sheet what you want to see there. Please do so for at least ONE of the projects and post the workbook again.

One thing I will say up front: AVOID MERGED CELLS! They are a nightmare and should not be used unless it is absolutely necessary (and it isn't here). Don't out form above function.

I'm confused with the way you have laid out your data in the Pipeline sheet. In the Data sheet you show that you need 15 hrs for weeks 1 to 4 for Skill 1 on Project X, but in the Pipeline sheet you have shown that you need these for the first 4 days. Shouldn't the 15 hours be spread out across 5 days (i.e. 3 hours each day)?

    Hi Pete,

Apologies the spread out of the data pipeline should be based on the w/c dates. I have changed this now. I am not sure if in data sheet date representation of wk 1, wk2 etc is the best one to be fair, so open to suggestions

2110 is a release number, not actually the version. It looks like you gave either Excel 2019, Excel 2021 or MS365.
