    Reverse Lookup

    Dear everyone,

I could use some help with the following challenge (for me at least).

I've got a matrix set up for different Game category's with values that indicates how bad or good participants are at a specific game.

    Reverse Lookup Matrix.png

F.i. if a junior participant scores a 50 in Game A then the preferred result would be 'Bad' (>=0 to 70 would classify as Bad, >=70 to 90 would classify as acceptable and so on).
An example of some scores with preferred results...

    Reverse Lookup Scores.png

In yellow, I've got a formule that works as long there's an exact match with a correpsonding value in the matrix, but if f.i. I enter a score of 150 (for a Game A Junior) the result is a #N/A.

Is there a solution for this challenge..?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Mike

    Re: Reverse Lookup

    Try this:

    =INDEX($D$2:$G$2,,MATCH(G14,INDEX($D$3:$G$10,MATCH(C14,$C$3:$C$10,0),),1))

    Hi Ali,

Thank you very much..! Next time I'll challenge you for real... :-D
In the meantime, I feel deeply ashamed of myself that I couldn't figure it on my own.

    Re: Reverse Lookup

    Hi Ali,

I already closed this thread (and gave you your well earned reputation), but working with my actual list, I noticed that sometime the values go up in an ascending way (like the table I've included, being f.i. how many times they score a point, the more the better the classification), but some also have a descending way, f.i. how many times the participant got hit. The more they get hit, the worse their score will be. Is that someting I could fit in the same table, maybe with a total different formula..?

    Re: Reverse Lookup

You will need to arrange your tables so that everything is going in the same direction, either low to high or high to low.

    Re: Reverse Lookup

Can't I use a xlookup formula in combination with something else to specify the lookup in the right row based on category..?
