Filter one column including values from another column

Hello, I have been trying and failing to use values in one column to filter another column. What seems to be making this tricky is that the values in the columns are not equal. For example lets say I want to filter column A to only show cells containing values from the cells in column B, but column A has cells containing 1a, 2a, 3b, 4b. And column B has 1, 3, and 5. So I would like the outcome to spit out a list of the cells in column A that contain values from column B. So given the example above, 1a and 3b would be left after the filter.

I have tried to use advanced filter but it wont work. A snip from my sheet shows 2 columns, you can see the first rows cells are almost the same but there is a prefix, the entire second column has prefix's. I want to take everything from the second column that includes values from the first column.

    1. a filter hides entire rows, not just the cells that are filtered.

    2. Your description does not match the image you posted. While I understand you are trying to show a simplified set of data, it is always better if your text matches what you show.

    3. from your description - read 2 above)...
    column A has cells containing 1a, 2a, 3b, 4b. And column B has 1, 3, and 5
1a and 3b are NOT the same as 1 and 3.
1st the entries do not match exactly
2nd 1a and 3b are text, not values, while 1 and 3 (if entered just like that) are values and not text.

Im thinking that your best bet is to use a formula in a helper column to ID the "similar" matches, then use a filre based on that.
