Using "IF": to have one column where data can be filtered.

    Hello,

I have limited knowledge of Excel and I was wondering if you could help me with a question about building a formula in excel. If you can here's what I have. The goal is to have one column where data can be filtered. The reason for this is that the specific group of columns will be hidden. I am using =IF($I2>0,"Current","") in cell ?A2? but if it returns a blank I want the formula to move to the next cell in that row with this formula =IF($J2>0,"0-30","") and so on until it finds a cell that?s not blank then stop and then populate cell "A2" with the title for the cell where the information was captured. Below is a row from the spread sheet in question.

I thought using this formula in cell ?A2? would work but of course it didn?t work and searching online is not helping.

    IF($I2>0,"Current","", IF($J2>0,"0-30","", IF($K2>0,"31-60","", IF($L2>0,"61-90","", IF($M2>0,"91-120","", IF($N2>0,"Retention",""))))))

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about. Tell us what you are trying to do, not how you think it should be done.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are new here, I have done it for you this time.)

    Re: Using "IF"

Thanks that worked great. Funny thing was I had tried that formula myself and I got a #value error and couldn't figure out where the issue was.
