I would like to count how many cells are in a filtered column.

Hello. I am needing to produce some stats from a spreadsheet. For this I need to have filters on, and count the results. I simply want to know the total number of cells in one column (they only contain text) that are the result of these filters, i.e. I have been asked to find out how many teaching sessions were delivered for a particular subject so I have to filter by the subject and count how many total sessions were delivered. I have tried COUNTA and COUNTIF, with and without a wildcard, and this does not want to work. I would rather not have to manually count the sessions as there are hundreds! Does anyone know a formula for this?

Well, a quick way to know how many records are showing is to look in the Status Bar (bottom left). Excel will show something like: "61 on 210 records found".

    Use SUBTOTAL (102) or AGGREGATE.

Thank you both! It looks like I will need to use the SUBTOTAL formula as the status bar was including the cells that were not the results of the filter.

    Not sure of this.
Anyway, glad we were able to help.
