    Question Calculation of different sets of cells depending on the content of a separate cell

    Hello everyone, thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

    I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure this out. I have 4 separate sets of data (one for each quarter of the year) and a 5th set of data that acts as a 'year-to-date' summary of the previous 4. I need to somehow have the 'year-to-date' data combine the sum of the previous 4 quarters, depending on which quarter I specify in a different cell outside those sets of data.

    For example, if I specify '3' in a separate cell, I need the 'year-to-date' data to add quarters 1, 2, and 3 together, but ignore quarter 4, the same if I specify '2' which will add quarters 1 and 2 together but ignore 3 and 4.

    Is there a particular function/formula within Excel that can handle this, or is it held within a different method?

    Hello again Fluff. How would I go about amending that formula to use cells that aren't next to each other? I need to adapt this same formula but there are some cells in-between that aren't a part of the calculation.

    I tried selecting the cells (F9,M9,T9,AA9) but was presented with the 'too many arguments' error; I don't see any rogue commas, brackets, etc. I've attached a screenshot of the formula (cell references are different from what you sent as this is in my proper document).

    I've attached a test document which is what I'm working with. I need the YTD green column to perform the above formula across the green columns from each Quarter. Please let me know if you have any other questions about how it works.
