    Cantinuous Facility Location Problem constraint

    Hi,

For a case for Uni we have a company that can deliver from 7 facilities to 9 different regions. Our job is to find out which regions to serve from which facilities with which vehicles. To discover that we have made a Facility Location Problem (FLP) that considers all costs and other data available to us. But now we have one problem, we got as a result that two facilities would deliver (amongst others) to one and the same region. But the lecturer said that this was not allowed, and in a binary FLP this would not be a problem to make it work. But since ours is continuous we don't really know how to proceed. Does anyone know how to implement this constraint into our excel?

If I posted this in the wrong forum please let me know.

    Welcome to the forum.

    What is a binary FLP?

We'll attampt to guide you, but as this is clearly an assignment, bear in mind that we should not be handing you a result on a plate.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

    Hi!

Thanks for your reply, a binary FLP is a model that only allows the variables to have an outcome of 0 or 1. And shows the total demand.
And it is an assignment, but the total assignment is to make a management report. And we constructed the entire model ourselves but there is this one constraint that is bothering us (quite a lot ). So any help would be appreciated. Our model spans across three different work sheets so it is a bit difficult to provide a sample.

    As you have stated:
considers all costs and other data available to us
Would it not be as simple as, the facility that could deliver for the lowest cost?
If the costs are the same then maybe it would be the site that was not as busy, so as to smooth out the network.
If things don't change they stay the same

Thanks for your reply! The costs are different, but it considers that some addresses in the region are closer to one facility than the other, so it is more cost effective to deliver one side of the region with one facility and one side of the region with another. I'll add a screenshot of the variables that we are trying to constraint if that helps.
