Text in a formula represents a number

I have a workbook that I inherited that includes text in formulas rather than numbers. For example, a formula is:

    =If(A1>splitdate,A25*P1_presplit,A25*P1_postsplit)

The split date is a defined future date and P1_presplit and P1_postsplit represent 95% and 5%, respectively

Does anybody know how excel knows what those terms are supposed to represent / how to edit the values that correspond? I assume it might be something on the developer tab but I'm not really sure how to find them

Have a look in the Name Manager on the formula tab. They are probably defined names.

    Hi sween123,

I agree with Fluff. Look at your Formulas > Name Manager and see if splitdate is a number.

Click on the down arrow in the Name Box should bring you to the named range:

You've had this sort of thing explained to you before: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...26-v-date.html

    You never acknowledged that help.
