    3 consecutive vowels categorise

    Please look at this logic

    ARCHAEA
    ALTHAEA
    TAIAHAS
    MANAIAS
    WAIATAS

    Say those are on A1

Need formula on b1 drag down to give below

    AEA
    AEA
    AIA
    AIA
    AIA

Need formula to search 3 consecutive vowels in the word and pull that at B

Find file attached , with expected results for the first 5 words

    Thank you

One way, clean all expected results in column B.

    B1

As there is no MAP or LAMBDA in 2019, a rather long-winded formula:

It can be made a little more compact using two named ranges (S & V: CTRL-F3 to view/edit) to replace rpeating sections of the formula:

    =MID(A1,XMATCH(1,ISNUMBER(MATCH(MID(MID(A1,1,5),S,1),V,0))*ISNUMBER(MATCH(MID(MID(A1,2,5),S,1),V,0))*ISNUMBER(MATCH(MID(MID(A1,3,5),S,1),V,0)),0),3)

Formula looks okay but i am not able to copy formula b1 downwards for it to pour answers for the rest of the words

About O2019, try to solve by brute-force.

    B1 and copy down.

Using the named ranges that Glenn came up with, here is another (shorter) formula:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

EDIT: This formula can be used in Excel 2013 and newer and in Excel 2019 for MAC and newer
