Multiple checks across text values for condition to be returned - 4 possible outcomes

Hello and hoping you can help me! I have befuddled myself with nested IF and COUNT and feel there must be a simple solution I am not seeing, thank you for your help in advance.

I have a data set looking at outcomes and need to apply a formula to review text based evaluation (where there is a possible of 3 different values - improved, deteriorated, unchanged) across an individual row (5 columns) for the following conditions:

If there is at least one "improved", AND no "deteriorated"; return value of "better"
If there is at least one "deteriorated", AND no "improved"; return value of "worse"
If there is at least one "improved" AND one "deteriorated"; return value of "mixed"
If ALL values are "unchanged"; return value of "unchanged"

What is the best method forward?Caculation assistance.xlsx

the 3rd result, why you expect it to be "mixed", while it shoul be "better" (There is "improve" and no "deteriorated")?

    Thanks Quang,

I understand it is a little difficult - this evaluating reporting of a tool which the interpretation is to follow these conventions.

Across the 5 domains (represented here in each column)
If there is improvement +/- no change, and no deterioration; the person is considered improved

If there is deterioration +/- no change, and no improved score, the person is considered worse

If there is a mix of improvement and deterioration in scores, the outcome is considered mixed

If there is no change on any dimension, the outcome is considered unchanged.

The count if for unchanged would work, but does not for improved or deteriorated, as there is only requirement for presence of at least one condition and absence of another.

Otherwise contemplating creating additional step, rather than just one formula?

So, with the file attched in #2, is the result corrected?
line 3 and 4, there are "Improved" and "Unchange" which should be "better" (as my formula in column L), but your manual input is "Mixed" (in column K), why?

I am sorry I did not realise you had edited the original sheet (which makes sense of course in retrospect).

This is solved, and I will study the logic to learn for next time. The naming convention was muddled in my instruction but improved and better were same, and worse / deteriorated same. I have updated formula in final version to reflect.

So very grateful for your assistance. You have been very generous and patient.
