Question its all a matter of time!!

i posted on this one before but got no response.

what i need is a cell that calculates the amount of hours and min. between two cells than returns a value in decmils.

    here is what i have in cell h6 =h5-h4.... h5 and h4 are formatted as h:mm am/pm and cell h6 is formated as h:m but when i simpley change this format to 0.00 insted of 8:15 ( 8 hr 15min ) i get a result of .7 when i need 8.25

thanks to those that can help

If you've changed the time difference format to 0.00, then to get the right answer you should multiply the difference by 24.

Excel stores times as a decimal value based on a 24-hour clock, hence 18:00 (6:00 pm) is 0.75.

    With 1:20 am in H4
    and 6:00 pm in H5
and H6 formatted to 0.00 and reading =(H5-H4)*24,
your answer should be 16.667, equivalent to 16:40 (16 hrs 40 mins)

    Regards
    Mike
