I cannot get a column of numbers to sum, why?

I have tried everything! I have a column of numbers that I need to add
together, and I cannot get it to work. All I get in a big fat 0! I down
loaded the information from my bank. I have tried reformatting the cells,
but nothing seems to help. If I type in the numbers in the next column, and
use the sum function, it works...but I do not want to type in over 3000
numbers! I have even tried copying and pasting the column to another
    column...I am stumped...can anyone help - PLEASE!

    Try this:

Right-click on an empty cell > Copy

Then select and right-click on the column of numbers
Choose Paste special > Add > OK

Backup your data first, then highlight the column and try Data > Text to
    columns > Delimited > and un-check all delimiters.....with General
format..............then try re-formatting the column to
    general.............

Thanks for your help...however it did not work, I didn't have any delimiters
    - but I went ahead and did what you said anyway...but unfortunately it didn't
work. I'm totally confused about this...I have never had this problem
before. Any more ideas? They would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again! -

This is just a guess... But why not try Copy > Paste Special > Values into a
column. Obviously there is something wrong with the data, so if you copy
only the numeric values then perhaps it will work? Maybe to be on the safe
side, copy onto a blank sheet?

    Good luck
