What does the ! mean in an excel spreadsheet??

example:

f(x) =DCF!J114

f(x) ='Capex Calc'!J99

I've looked in help, but i cant figure out what the exclaimation mark does (!)
can anybody help me...

The ! tells Excel where the sheet name ends and cell reference begins.

Cell J114 of sheet DCF

If your sheet name has a space, it also uses single quotes too.

Cell J99 of sheet 'Capex Calc'
