Formatting and IF statements

Is there a way to format a cell based on the outcome?

For example, I have an IF statement that says if a number is greater than a certain number, format the cell as a percentage, if not, show it as a dollar amount.

Yep, use conditional format, under the Format tab in the menu bar.
