Can a date be used for conditional formatting?

I have a spreadsheet like the following
Date of call, Cust name, a/c no, amount, date due in, date for follow up,
    amount

What I am looking for is on the date due in is for the cells to chage colour
    according to the date.
e.g. If date due in is 30/10/05
it to go green once input, then 7 days prior to the date due in in the cell
to change to orange and then on the date or beyond to go red. Bare in mind
each cell will have a differant due in date. I am also looking for the same
for the coloudate for follow up.

Is this possible? If it is how the heck do you do it cause I am so confused

    Hi Anne

Thats great thank. I have managed to get the first bit to work so it turns
green but when I try to do the 2nd and 3rd stages it doesn't work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Stevie
